Firefighting Operations
Metro Helicopters is currently in the planning stages for a new fire fighting operation. This operation will initially be based at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), and will support fire prevention and fire fighting missions in Southern California.
Aircraft under evaluation for these missions include the Bell 412 and Erickson S-64E Aircrane. Special fire attack base scenery is also under development for actual locations throughout California. We intend to also leverage the FS Blaze application for the simulation of real world fires, as well as custom scenery, developed for training purposes.
Metro has applied to VATSIM management for official Special Operations status, which is currently under review. Once approved, pilot training and certification activities will commence.
Please watch this space for additional details, as they become available.
